SUMMARY:40th Annual Freedom Fund Gala
DESCRIPTION:Thank you for your support of our annual Freedom Fund Gala. We greatly appreciate your support as it enabled us to continue our tradition of voter protection and empowerment\, health and education\, as well as providing scholarships that help to make college an attainable goal to students in Genesee County. Unfortunately\, like most of the world\, COVID deterred our plans of hosting our annual event in 2020\, but it did not halt our work. \nWe hope that support continues as we plan the 2021 Flint Branch Freedom Fund Celebration. This event will be held on November 13\, 2021at the Holiday Inn Gateway Centre\, but in the interest of the health and safety of our community\, it will be at half capacity with on-line viewing and advertising capabilities. Sanitation stations will be provided\, as well as masks\, which will be a requirement to enter the event. Social distancing and contact tracing will also be in place. Online viewing will be available to anyone that places a donation of $40 or more. \nWe are dedicated to fulfilling our mission in gearing up to fight the voter suppression legislation\, as well as voter education and empowerment\, education disparities\, making sure that we are viable in all areas of inequality. It takes resources to engage in the many battles\, that we are called to get involved in. DESCRIPTION:Flint City Council candidates vying for a chance to represent their ward on the city’s governing body will get a chance to earn supporters at two candidate forums this week. \nThe Flint Branch NAACP is hosting two candidate forums from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday\, July 6 and Thursday\, July 8 at the Heritage and Harmony Stage\, located at 1401 W. Dayton St. \nThe forums were organized in collaboration with the Concerned Pastors for Social Action\, Genesee County Democratic Black Caucus and the Pan-Hellenic Council. \nCandidates for wards 2\, 3 and 4 will be heard on Tuesday. Wards 6\, 7 and 8 will be at the Thursday forum. Former Mayor Karen Williams-Weaver and Mike Woolfolk\, a Mid-Michigan NOW anchor\, will moderate the discussions. \n\n\n\n\n\nBoth candidate forums will be livestreamed on our Flint Branch NAACP Facebook page.
